Obituary for George William Torphy

George William  Torphy
December 21, 1925 to June 18, 2016

George, son of Marie Kirchner and John Torphy, was born in Rockford, Illinois and spent his early life in Beloit Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife Patricia, sons William and Ted, as well as Ted’s wife Blanche, his grandsons Brenden and Patrick, brother & sister in law Ronald and Karen Priebe, and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John and sister Viola.

George married Patricia in 1948. Their remarkable relationship of seventy years served as an example of deep love and devotion for their family and friends.

He served as Vice President of Marketing at Blue Cross of Wisconsin until his retirement in 1989.

A competitive tennis player, George was an avid reader who appreciated art as well as jazz and classical music. He was a man of remarkable intelligence, a gentle, kind and wise man who always cared for people.

No service is scheduled. Donations to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission or charity of choice can be made in lieu of flowers.
