Obituary for Carole Y. Bates (Quinn)

Carole Y. Bates (Quinn)
Carole Y. Bates (nee: Quinn) was called home to the Lord’s warm embrace on Friday, June 2, 2017.
Born March 17, 1937, to Howard and Cecil Quinn in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the youngest of ten children. Carole attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from St. John’s Academy High School. It was during that time that she met the love of her life, Robert F. Bates, and attended her prom. It should be noted that his name was the only name on her dance card. Carole and Robert were married for 58 years and were blessed with six children, one daughter-in-law, five sons-in-law, 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Carole became a nurse and worked at Lasata Care Center in Cedarburg, Wis., until she retired in 1999. Carole enjoyed working with the other caregivers and cared for many wonderful residents during her career at Lasata. Carole also enjoyed sewing and quilting, producing many quilts, prom dresses, wedding dresses, baptismal gowns, First Communion dresses, Halloween costumes, Barbie clothes, and doll clothes over her many years as a mother and grandmother. She devoted much of her time to St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown, Wis., where she could be found volunteering for the St. Vincent de Paul Society or attending the 8 a.m. Mass weekdays and the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday night where she was a frequent liturgical minister. Carole was a master cook and baker for anyone who was lucky enough to sit down and enjoy a meal she prepared. Her homemade bread, pies, monkeybread and chocolate cake with caramel icing will be missed by all! She took the most pride in her children and grandchildren and spent as much time as she could in supporting them in all their endeavors. Robert liked to say that Carole babysat “eight days a week”!
Carole is survived by her husband and best friend, Robert, her son Dennis Bates (Chris), her daughters Dorothy Klumb (Randy), Jennifer Schweizer (Terry), Elaine Sathe (Jeff), Catherine Drinan (Tim), and Erin Kupkovits (Jason). She is also survived by 21 beautiful grandchildren and two extra-special great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Joe Quinn, in Fort Myers, Fla., and a sister, Bernadine Wampler, in Fishers, Ind. Carole is preceded in death by many wonderful people who we believe are welcoming her into their arms until we can be with her again.
Visitation will be held Thursday June 8th from 10 am until time of Mass at 1 pm at St. Boniface Catholic Church (W204 N11940 Goldendale Rd. Germantown). Carole’s family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital-Ozaukee. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s of the Woods https://spsmw.org/, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, or you can buy a beautiful flower for yourself and when you see it, smile and think of Carole.
