Lily Anna (Starkell) Nolan

Lily Anna Starkell was born May 17, 1922 in Arcola, SK, CN. Lily was the youngest of ten children and the daughter of William and Elizabeth Starkell. In her youth, her family farmed and her Dad worked for the CPR. Her family moved to Brandon, MB, CN in 1936.
In 1939 Lily met Ted Baker. They married in Jan. 1940 in Brandon, MB. Ted and Lily had five children, Gwen (8/41), Stillborn daughter (1/46), Lynne (12/46), Richard (11/48), Doug (10/52). Ted worked at the CPR and as a mechanic and welder while Lily stayed home to care for their children and home.
In February, 1952 Ted, Lily and their children moved to Milwaukee, WI. They lived with relatives while they began building their home. Ted worked for Oster Mfgr while Lily remained home caring for their children. Ted was diagnosed with cancer that summer. With Ted's surgeries, failing health and bills that needed to be paid, Lily had to go to work.
In 1953 Lily applied for and was hired at Safer Foods as a meat cutter by the Manager, Bill Nolan. Ted died in Jan. 1955. Bill Nolan's wife, Lucille, died unexpectedly of an aneurysm in 1957, leaving Bill a widower with two sons: Ted (7/47) and Michael (2/50)
Bill and Lil began dating in 1958 and were married later that year. Lily quit her job in December to care for their children and home when they moved to Germantown, WI. Bill and Lil added a daughter, Deb, to their family in (2/59) and a son, Paul, in (12/60).
Lil's life was always an adventure, primarily because she and Bill made it so! Lil often said that she was blessed not just once but twice, with a wonderful husband and again blessed with their family of eight children.
Lil and Bill built a second home on Silver Lake in Cumberland, WI in 1984. They and all of their children and grandchildren enjoyed fishing and boating. Lil and Bill also enjoyed traveling to many states in the U.S., Provinces in Canada, Mexico and the Grand Cayman Island.
Lily loved to garden, especially flower gardening, sewing, cooking, going to garage sales, writing poetry and reading.
Lily often said that her faith in God has always been the foundation of her life.
Lily died Saturday, April 1st, 2017 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI at the age of 94.
She will be dearly missed and always remembered for the inspiration, love, caring, understanding and compassion that she shared abundantly with those she loved and with others whose lives she touched....... and for her great sense of humor that won't be forgotten!
Lily Anna is survived by her children: Lynne (Don) Overlander, Ted (Anna) Nolan, Mike (Sally) Nolan, Doug (Brilla) Baker, Deb (Terry) Fox, Paul (Sue) Nolan; grandchildren Kurt (Doreen) Faes, Donald (Leanne) Overlander, Daniel (Elena) Overlander, Karyn (Michael) Downs, David (Carol) Overlander, Bill (Ania) Nolan, Vicki (Jason) Nash, Jessie (Mike) LeBoef, Sean Baker, Vaughn (Michelle) Baker, David Baker, Alexandra (Oscar) Gallardo, Stephen Fox, Nick Fox, Samantha Fox, Madi Nolan and Joe Nolan, Heather (Lee) Riddick; 22 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and Sister in Law, Elsie Nolan.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husbands, Ted Baker and Bill Nolan, and children Gwen Faes, and Richard Baker.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Lil's life will be held on Saturday, July 22 from 4-8 PM at the American Legion Post, N120 W15932 Freistadt Rd, Germantown,
