Obituary for Rev. Henry F. Hammerling

Hammerling, Rev. Henry F.
Entered God’s loving arms and reunited with his loving wife Elaine on December 26, 2016 at the age of 93. Preceded in death by his wife Elaine Hammerling (Nee Taddey), son Henry Hammerling Jr., daughter Patricia Hammerling, parents Emil Sr. and Rose Hammerling, brother Emil Hammerling Jr., and sister Esther D’Esposito. Survived by brother Walter (Diane) Hammerling and sister Nancy E. Galow. Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graduated from Bay View High School in 1942 and was a French horn player during high school in the band. In 1940 Rev. Henry joined the Cudahy Municipal Band and the Wisconsin College Orchestra. During the summer of 1941 he was selected to play in the Milwaukee National Youth Administration Orchestra and tour the state with the orchestra. In 1942 Rev. Henry was selected to become the director of the first Milwaukee Civil Air Patrol Band. He was drafted into the U.S Army in 1943. He traveled to London, Belgium, central Germany and France with the Radio Traffic Analysis Group. He was discharged in 1946. After he served he returned home to work at Cutler Hammer in the coil department until he transferred to the control panel department. In 1972 after 31 years at Cutler Hammer he resigned to become full time Lay Associate at First Lutheran Church. Rev. Henry was ordained in 1979. He received a call from Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River, Michigan. He was there for 7 years. In 1986 he retired from the full time ministry to accept a part time Associate at First Lutheran Church. He finally retired from the ministry in 2003. Rev. Henry was the Pastor Emeritus of First Lutheran Church of West Allis.
Visitation will be held on January 3rd from 10:00AM to 11:00AM with service to follow at First Lutheran Church. 7400 W. Lapham St, West Allis, WI 53214. Interment Highland Memorial Park.
