Obituary for William Vander Heyden

William  Vander Heyden
At age 80, William(Bill) Vander Heyden died unexpectedly on October 16, 2016. His wife Elizabeth had passed earlier on August 16, 2013. He is survived by his son William Brian and wife Kelly of Katy, TX, James and wife Tammy of Menomonee Falls WI. and daughter Lissa Vander Heyden of Fox Point, WI. He has 4 grandchildren.

Bill was born on September 18, 1936 in Menasha, WI. As a child, Bill attended St. Mary's Elementary School in Menasha and moved on to St. Mary's High School in Menasha. Bill was very active in athletics in high school and was part of a state champion basketball team as well as the football team. Through his child and teenage years, Bill worked diligently at the family business Twin City Bottling with his mother and father.

Bill went on to undertake electrical engineering studies at Marquette University in Milwaukee where he received a BS and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Liz and Bill were married in Appleton on January 9, 1960 Upon Graduation, Bill began his career at Oster in Racine, but quickly moved to Badger Meter in Brown Deer Wisconsin. Bill spent the rest of his career with Badger Meter. He started his career in the engineering area and authored and/or co-authored 26 patents. In 1972, he moved on to be the head of engineering for the Tulsa, OK based manufacturing facility for Badger Meter. Bill eventually became the GM for the Tulsa, OK facility. Bill then moved on to an executive leadership role that brought him back to the Milwaukee area. Bill and Liz were residents of Mequon, WI.

Bill and Liz were active members of Tripoli Country Club in Brown Deer for many years. They were both avid golfers and enjoyed after golf time in the clubhouse. Bill and Liz traveled to Europe several times as well as many areas of the U.S.

When Liz developed memory issues, both Liz and Bill moved to Newcastle Place in Mequon for her care and Bill lived in the independent living condos. His family wishes to thank the staff at the Newcastle Place for their excellent care. A family private visitation will be held at a yet to be determined date.
